This section summarises a few of the other interests I have. Click on any of the images below to find out more.
The Voynich Manuscript
Detail from folio 67r
In 1912 a rare book dealer named Wilfrid Voynich discovered a mysterious manuscript at Villa Mondragone, Frascati, Italy. It consisted of 246 pages written in an unknown code, cipher or language and accompanied by coloured drawings of plants, the zodiac and naked nymphs cavorting in a puzzling series of tubes and baths. To this day no-one has yet been able to convincingly demonstrate whether the manuscript is a hoax or a genuine cipher. Various theories have associated it with Roger Bacon, John Dee, Edward Kelley and Emperor Rudolf II.
The New World Order Conspiracy Theory
Detail from Dollar Bill
In the late 90's I came across Barry Smith's New World Order conspiracy theory. According to Barry a hierarchy of secret societies, including the OTO and Freemasons, are plotting to take global control. This hierarchy is headed by Satan himself. Each of us will be implanted with a silicon chip (the mark of the beast) and be subjected to a one world government, bank, army (the UN), and religion (the World Council of Churches). Issues such as global warming and nuclear armament are simply red herrings to distract us from the truth and coerce us into accepting the one world government. This is the New World Order (NWO)...or is it?
Spirit Rescue Circle
Ouija Board
During 2002-2005 I took part as a participant/observer in a spirit rescue circle. The group began with table-tilting, and then ouija, until finally one of the group members started to go into trance. Various communications came through the trance medium which we tried to verify. Eventually the nature of the communications changed and the group became, what is known in Spiritualism as, a spirit rescue circle. The function of such a circle is to help 'earth-bound' spirits move on to the spirit world.
Israel Tour
Dome of the Rock
In 2000 CE I visted Israel with a friend staying in youth hostels. We visited numerous different sites using Akko, in the North, and Jerusalem as bases. This page displays a selection of the photographs I took on the journey with a few notes about their signficance. Despite its worldwide reputation Israel is a tiny country, about the size of Wales. Yet its variety of geography and landscapes are staggering; from the snowy slopes of Mount Hermon and the lush green views of Galilee in the North to the sun bleached sands of the Negev desert and the bustling suqs of old Jerusalem.
